The Unexpected!

Moose Magic!

There's an old saying that my family has heard me use from time to time: "When you least expect it . . . Expect It!"

That's exactly what happened when we discovered this colorful moose sculpture on a recent trip to Bennington, Vermont. There we were, driving slowly through downtown Bennington, when we rounded a corner and "BAM!" There he was - standing quietly in someone's yard - in all of his artful glory!

My poor husband thought I'd permanently lost it when I started to yell: "Pull over! Pull over!" It was love at the first sight of colorful "Mr. Moose", and I had to capture his glorious essence and the wonder of it all! If I may ask, how often do you see a "Magic Moose"?!?! See . . . Expect the unexpected!

May YOUR weekend be filled with unexpected pleasures and artful wonders!

Hi Terri! If I spotted that guy, I'd be screeching to a halt, too. What are the odds of finding a calico moose? It's a one-of-a-kind photo op. That's the sort of thing that makes the road trip worthwhile!

What a fun find! I love stuff like that. Once while driving down a highway I've driven a hundred million times with my folks over my lifetime, I saw an elephant in someone's farm field in Missouri! I thought I was losing my mind. It turned out they had rescued it from somewhere and kept it for many years until it died from old age. So, I agree, what you least expect is sometimes what you find!

Mooses are so great animals and that one is reason enough to stop.

Oh, he's wonderful! I'm afraid I'd have gone one step further, knocked on the door, and said "Tell me the story of the moose!" Now we'll never know. Arrrrrgggggghhhh!

I SO enjoyed all of your comments! OMG, Marsha! If I'd have seen an elephant in a field I'd have gone wild! Ya know, Bev, I never even thought of banging on the door! My sweet husband was blocking street traffic so that I could take a few pics! What a guy!!!! Hugs! xoxoxo

I've fallen in love too - and with a moose!! This is gorgeous. A couple of years ago the New York Times had the most wonderful photos of statues of horses which had been painted in the most intricate patterns - on show at a museum somewhere in New York.

Mr. Moose is a symbol of absolute joy! How could you NOT turn the car around and take his picture? Ava and I once did the same thing for a purple Jesus lawn statue, and he was the subject of one of my favorite collages. Do you know anything about the origin of this antlered masterpiece?

To answer a few questions:
@Carolyn - I'd have stuffed and shoved if I thought he'd fit into the car!
@Peggy & Alberta - I'm on the lookout for the purple cow. But a purple Jesus!!! Holy Cow! Unfortunatley, I don't know the origins of this fabulous beast; his origins will have to remain a mystery! Love & Hugs xoxo
