"Dee & Me" - Three Muses Challenge

"Dee & Me"
5"x7" Collage
(Click on a crown to see the details.)

The theme for the Three Muses challenge this week is "Inspirational People". You might be wondering, "Why fairies?" Well . . . I fairy-fied this picture of my sister, Dolores, and me that was taken in the mid 1950's for a reason. (Dee is wearing the blue dress, and I'm in the pink one.)

If you look closely at Dees' crown, it says "Wings" because she is one of Heaven's newer angels. (Her wings are yellow because that was a favorite color.) It'll be three years this October that I lost my baby sister to ovarian cancer. By the time she was diagnosed, it was way too late. Thankfully, The Good Lord was generous and spared her a long ordeal.

Dee's life has been an inspiration to many people. She was truly one of the nicest people you'd ever want to meet. She made people feel good about themselves and loved to laugh. (I adored her twisted, satiric sense of humor.) She tried to live each day to the fullest and always put other people's needs ahead of her own - even when she was sick. She was an awesome Mom and an awesome woman. She was the epitome of generosity and kindness. She led a quiet, gentle life and left behind a wonderful legacy of love. I miss her every minute of every day.

Tons of memories swirled and whirled through my mind, and quite a few tears were shed while working on this piece. This may not be the best piece of artwork I've ever done or the most original, but it's the most meaningful. Dee loved small children and fairies, and I'd like to think that I've made an angel smile.

Wishing you a day filled with heartfelt hugs!

PS - Give someone you love an extra hug today too! :)

Credits: The photo is from my Mom's collection; both of the crowns and the pretty roses are from Cassiscreations on Etsy; the wings are from Flickr's ArtsyFartsyQueen (Thank You!); the butterfly is from Dover Publications.

What a beautiful and loving tribute to your baby sister. It brought tears to my eyes to read her story. Your painting is exquisite, moreso because we know where it comes from. Two little fairies without a care in the world - One of them taken too early. So sad.
Terri, this made a huge impact on me.

What a truly beautiful tribute to your sister, Terri. Your words were extremely inspirational as well, brought tears to my eyes...my only siblings both died in the past six months, my brother and my sister, so I know how you must feel. Your angels are so pretty! Great art piece.

Your sister must be smiling up there to know that you are sharing her story with your friends. It is a sad story, beautifully told. I love your picture of two little girls who have no idea what is ahead for them in life.

Dear Terri, I honestly got watery eyes while reading your post.
I´m sure that you made an angel smile and I honestly believe, that the ones we loved and have lost become our guardian angels, who have a look at us, and help us through hard times.
I will hug somebody today, I promise.....

Arting is such wonderful way to connect with your feelings. I love your "fairy-fied" piece so much. The best art is the art that touches our hearts. You have touched mine today. Love, Jamie

Terri it was very difficult for me to get through your post today, though the art is lovely, because it pains me so greatly that you lost your sweet, funny sister. I have one of those myself, and she's been my best friend for 49 years. I cannot imagine how you've survived this, but, on the other hand, I am profoundly glad that you were blessed by the love and companionship of yor sister Dee. I know that she smiles down on you every day and I want you to know that every time you take the time to give me support, encouragement, or just a laugh, I feel blessed by my blog sisterhood with you.

Love,
Alberta
