The Merry Month of May!

May 2011
(Click on each image to see the details!)

Since May is a month filled with flowers and new life, I couldn't resist adding fantasy touches of nature to surround my Zetti "May Queen". I've given this spread a "softer" look with a subtle color palette for a nice change of pace.

I recently purchased my first set of Derwent Inktense watercolor pencils, and couldn't wait to give them a try. This background began with a light coat of gesso, followed by applications of the Inktense pencils, water, spritzes of ink and fluid acrylic. I think I've fallen in love, and I can't wait to add more colors to my Inktense collection!

May your day be bright, beautiful and colorful!

Credits: Thanks to Ceremony-Etsy for the May Queen's head and the bunny's hat, to a Flickr sharing group for the body and crown, and to Tumble Fish Studio-Etsy for the label. Butterflies are from Dover Publications and the yellow roses are from Moonlight Journey. The Zetti's eyes were created with a snippet of an image from Land of Nod-Etsy. Remaining elements, to the best of my knowledge, are in the public domain or were created by Pringle Hill Studio.

This is BEAUTIFUL. I'd love to give those watercolor pencils a try, especially on a journal page. As soon as the festival I'm preparing for is over, I can't wait to get back to some art journaling!

Terri your May page is stunning I love the softer colours to. I've seen those pencils but didn't know if I wanted to spend the money but seeing your work and how you used them, they will now be on my must have list.

The InkTense has given your calendar page a very subdued and muted look. I see why you are in love with them. Even though your colors are usually more of the primary-yellows and reds-the blues in your page are still very alive.

The new softer palette is lovely. I've been hearing more about the Inktense of late so just may have to look into these. I don't have any of the watercolor pencils. Your "queen" looks so happy to welcome spring.

How wonderful! And I even got my dose of color today, too. Your new pencils sound appealing. I will have to look for them the next time I'm at the art store. And of course the butterflies and roses are the perfect additions to your May queen. Love it all.

I really MUST make a new calendar after mine got lost on my California trip.
