My New Toy!

 My New Machine!

After 15 years of long and faithful service, the time had come to say goodbye to my old sewing machine. With so many different makes, models and features available on today's market, it was difficult choosing a replacement.

After a lot of research (Special thanks to Google!), I narrowed my choice to two different machines -- both computerized and manufactured by Brother. The first sewing machine had 297 built-in stitches! Holy Cow! And the second machine had 67 stitches . . . . but . . . . it can embroider and has a USB port to download embroidery and applique patterns. After sewing with only six built-in stitches, anything was an improvement!

I am now the proud owner of the 2nd machine, a Brother SE-400, and after sewing with a very basic Singer, I'm in LOVE. My new machine threads its own needle, stops when the thread breaks, has a clear bobbin cover, etc., etc. It's jam packed with nifty features, and I've been busy re-learning how to sew and can't wait to embroider.

I've been wanting to take my art in new directions, and my Muse has been whispering (sometimes shouting) tons of creative ideas. Now I've got the perfect tool to start new art journeys. I can't wait to start exploring!!! And, by the way, my old machine is going to my grand daughter, who can't wait to give it a new home and begin creative journeys of her own!

Wishing you a day filled with new discoveries!

Congratulations! I dabble in a variety of arts and quilting is one of them. I started out making large, traditional quilts. Now, I make more art quilts and I'm having a blast! Enjoy every minute, but please don't forget to share your art with us -- all forms of it. :) We can't wait to see it all.

Will you try free motion sewing as well?? I did a little with Jenny and it was way too much fun. I can give you the name of the foot she used on the machine if you like.

Enjoy your new machine. I was wondering why most of the quilters chose Brother brand. Thanks so much for your detailed info...

It's always great to get a new machine, I was lucky last year when my husband bought me a beautiful Bernina, I love it and use it nearly every day. Have fun with your machine as I know you will.

Wow, it really does have all the bells and whistles Terri, I am thrilled that you are having fun with it and can now take your art in another direction, can't wait to see what you create :)
I would love a machine that threads itself.

Terri, it looks FABULOUS! Love the very visible stitch selection on the right. Lighting looks good (always a good thing as we age LOL). Aren't these needle threaders great - again much NEEDED!!! Looks as if you have been playing with the wide variety of stitches. Can hardly wait to see what direction you will go with your art now!! Congrats.

Congratulations! How awesome. I am in awe of what you have shown already. And just having feed dogs that drop would be a great improvement for me but I suspect you already had that feature. I look forward to seeing your fabric or paper sewn art as you progress on this new journey. And of course, I know that whatever you make will inspire ME, as well. So keep up the inspirational art, be it paper or fabric!

Wonderful!!!! I love my sewing machine. Just remember to change the needle when sewing just cloth after sewing paper. It'll destroy what you're making otherwise...

Happy sewing; can't wait to see what you create!!!

I'm drooling! What a great machine you picked, and the stitches look lovely. I'm still fumbling around with my 6 - stitch Singer, which used to be white, but is now an aged yellow. Many happy projects to you!
